SPRING, Texas (FOX 26) - The Spring Texas Music Fest is once again raising money for U.S. military veterans, but this time it's reaching out to help individual veterans.
"They're probably one of the most underpaid heroes in the world," says Chuck Kramer, general manager of Planet Ford in Humble. He says that is one of the reasons that Planet Ford has a Vehicles for Vets program.
"We want to actually give back to an individual that served our country and made almost the ultimate sacrifice to our country," explains Kramer.
Planet Ford is one of the sponsors of the Spring Texas Music Fest at the Bareback Bar & Ice House, now in its second year. While the event raised money for the Lone Survivor Foundation in 2015, the proceeds this year will go toward building a house for a Houston-area veteran. Planet Ford is also seeking nominations for a veteran who will win a new 2015 Ford F-150 on the day of the festival. Any veteran of any war is eligible. He or she can nominate themselves or have someone nominate them. The dealership is accepting entries until July 11, but some amazing stories have already been submitted.
"They persevere through all different types of tragedies and different things that happen in life," says Kramer. "They are the ultimate hero and they need to be recognized."
Ultimately, the event organizers hope to be able to build a house for a veteran and put a truck in his or her driveway, but this is a long-term project that is just ramping up. Meanwhile, you can support the cause by turning out for the day-long concert at the Bareback Bar & Ice House and watching top country music performers.
"We would love for everybody to come out enjoy the music and the camaraderie, and meet some great soldiers and great veterans," says Kramer. "This is one of those events that makes you proud to be an American."
