If you are looking for some authentic spicy Sichuan Chinese food in Houston you don't have to head to Chinatown to get it.
A spot at the corner of Fountain View and Westheimer called Chuan's is about as real as it gets. Chuan's is a chain in China, with 60 restaurants around the country. The only American outpost is the one right here in Houston.
CEO Max Woo said he chose Houston because it reminded him of his hometown, right down to the hot and humid weather.
"Plus, Houston is a big city and an international city, and we thought people would know and like our kind of food," Woo said.
The thing you have to know about Sichuan food is that it is spicy. While there are dishes that are milder, the best things on the menu are hot, as in spicy hot.
One of the restaurant's signature dishes is the chili chicken. It's a plate of triple-fried cubes of chicken mixed in with chilies and and other spices.
Houston food writer Mai Pham recently checked it out for Fox 26.
