Michelle Merhar | FOX 26 Anchor & Traffic Reporter

Michelle Merhar is the Traffic Authority for FOX 26 in Houston weekdays from 4 a.m. to 10 a.m. Born and raised in Spring, a suburb of Houston, Merhar reports on the roads she's been traveling her entire life. Reporting on the roadways in a commuter city like Houston, with the Med Center, refineries and millions of people with places to go, she recognizes the weight of responsibility to get Houstonians to and from their destinations safely and on time.

In addition to traffic duties, Merhar is also the co-anchor of FOX 26 Morning News at 4 and 5 a.m. covering the top stories locally, nationally and internationally with a nod to trending social media topics of the day.

When anchoring and traffic reporting is complete, you can find Michelle compiling her report about weekend events in and around the city of Houston called, "What's Goin' Down in H-Town" which airs every Thursday and Friday at 5 p.m.

When it comes to scheduled construction you won't miss a single closure as she reports the daily, scheduled construction closures each evening during the 9 p.m. News. (Don't worry, it's a taped report so she's not here all day.)

Merhar has to tape the report in order to spend plenty of time with her husband, two toddlers (Abby and James) and Boxer (Cali). When not trying to stop time with the babies, she is usually running, working/playing outdoors or competing in a triathlon. Don't let her southern charm fool you - Michelle is also a first-degree Black Belt in Tang Soo Do.

Prior to joining FOX 26 in July of 2010, she worked briefly in the financial field, before accepting her first broadcasting job at NewsRadio 740 KTRH in Houston as the overnight, weekend anchor. From there, Michelle spent the next four years on the morning show updating listeners with the segment, "KTRH Connected". Along with maintaining the station's website, she also reported and worked on the Joe Pags Morning Show.

In addition to her work in news, Merhar loves to be involved in her community. She has emceed events for Texas Children's Hospital, Operation Smile, Leukemia-Lymphoma Society, Habitat for Humanity, Read 3 Zero, AVANCE, JDRF, Breast Cancer Charities of America, American Heart Association, Old Town Spring Pet Fest and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. She cherishes the opportunities she's had to guest lecture bright, future journalism students at schools all around the Houston area and kicks up the competitive side as a veteran competitor at the RodeoHouston Celebrity Goat Milking contest.

Michelle is a native Houstonian, graduate of Klein High School and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Electronic Media from Texas State University in San Marcos (Eat em up, Cats!) She is also currently pursuing her Masters with a degree in Business.
